A Stunning Home Exterior Transformation: Agate Grey Cladding, New Windows & Brickwork Alterations

Published by Shane Howells Windows, Doors & Conservatories

Sometimes a project is about far more than fitting a few new windows. This recent transformation involved careful planning, structural alterations, and a real collaborative effort with the homeowner to achieve a finish that’s both practical and visually striking — all while respecting the character of the original property.

Working Alongside the Client

From the outset, this was a project built on close communication. Understanding exactly what the homeowner wanted to achieve meant we could plan every element carefully — from the structural work right through to the final colour and finish. That collaborative approach is something we bring to every job we take on.

Structural Work: Lintel Installed & Brickwork Removed

To create the layout the homeowner envisioned, some meaningful structural alterations were required:

A new lintel was installed to accommodate the door opening, ensuring the structural integrity of the wall was fully maintained throughout.

Brickwork was also removed to create openings for additional windows — bringing more natural light into the property and opening up the façade in a way that makes a real visual difference.

New Fully Insulated Cladding

With the structural work complete, the exterior was transformed with new cladding, fully insulated behind. This isn’t just about looks — the insulation layer makes a genuine difference to thermal performance, helping to keep the home warmer and potentially reducing energy costs. The cladding also gives the property a clean, low-maintenance finish that will stand the test of time.

Getting the Details Right: Windows Running Inline

One of the finer details that makes a significant difference to the overall finish is the alignment of the windows. A couple of existing windows were altered so that all of the side windows now run perfectly inline with one another. It’s the kind of detail that’s easy to overlook on paper but makes the finished result look intentional, considered, and professionally executed.

Agate Grey Throughout: Matched to the Period of the House

The colour choice here was deliberate and well-considered. Agate grey was selected for both the windows and the cladding — a sophisticated, contemporary shade that also sits sympathetically with the age and character of the property. The result is a cohesive, period-appropriate exterior that feels fresh without looking out of place.

The Finished Result

The transformation speaks for itself. Structural alterations, new insulated cladding, realigned windows, and a carefully chosen colour scheme — all delivered in close collaboration with the homeowner to achieve exactly the finish they had in mind.
